Hi, I’m Connie Cao, a passionate urban permaculture gardener, educator and author. Welcome to my Border Garden, inspired by my book, Your Asian Veggie Patch. It’s a celebration of the joys of cultural gardening, and a nod to the incredible diversity of plants native to Asia that can be grown here in Australia.

The garden you see in front of you is comprised of plants I’ve been nurturing over the last few months in my Melbourne backyard, additional plants kindly sponsored by Bulleen Art and Garden, plant support from DIY Jack and a patio pond from Aquascape.

Through this garden design, I hope to:

  • share just how much food we can grow in a small space

  • introduce some new plants to your garden, that you might be interested in growing and cooking with

  • inspire you to connect with your own cultural heritage through gardening
