ASOS Future Stylist Grand Finals II

One of my favourite challenges in this competition was to style two occasionwear looks - an outfit to wear to a wedding and an outfit to wear to a Queen's Jubilee street party. I fell in love with this challenge as soon as I saw the rack we had to work from. It was packed with bright colours and prints - and you know what I feel about bright colours and prints! The shoes were just as celebratory. I spotted among the crowd, one of my favourite pairs of heels on the ASOS website which I've had saved in my wishlist for ages - a pair of criss-cross strap pointed court shoes. I first saw them in an issue of the ASOS magazine and seeing them in real life in this challenge really lifted my spirits!Street party for the Queen's Jubilee: I have got to admit that when I first read the brief and saw 'street party' and 'Queen's Jubilee', I thought: what?! Although Australia is a part of the Commonwealth, I swear I have never heard anyone talk about Queen's Jubilees.. ever. The same goes to street parties. I don't think they're very common here but at least that was somewhat self-explanatory. Anyway so a quick Google did help send me the right direction and I decided to go for a casual outfit and chose out jeans. However I also wanted to give the impression that someone actually thought about the outfit since it is for a nice little party, so I worked in some quirky little pieces like this ice-cream print, lilac sunglasses, a very cheery yellow bag (perfect for some spare change, little camera and phone). I really like the overall pastel combination of the look and would definitely wear it myself!Wedding look: For the wedding look, I wanted to go with something that was classy, dressed up but not so much a 'fashion statement'. I feel like for weddings (not that I have attended many - I've only been to one), the outfit should not be too out there or else it sorta draws too much attention to you and the wedding's supposed to be about the people getting married! So the safe option I went with was this beautiful floral dress, which also has a gorgeous sheer mesh panel on the top (not sure if you can see it). For the extra layer on top, I went for an unbuttoned blouse. I'm not sure if many people wear blouses like this but I have to put it out there, that I absolutely love it! I think it must be because that a lot of the (vintage) blouses I own are a couple of sizes too big for me and sometimes look a bit silly and wide buttoned up but when you wear it like this, you can hardly tell. It just looks like a loose jacket. I went to shoe heaven when I saw this pair of heels and knew instantly they had to be incorporated into one of my looks.
