One of my favourite things about coming back home from travelling is coming home to my bed again. No matter how luxurious a hotel is, there's always nothing better than coming home to the comforts of your own bed, having access to your entire wardrobe and spending lazy weekend mornings in. So whenever I head off travelling, I always make sure I make my bed and arrange my decor so it's ready for a big crash when I come home and that I have clean sleepwear to go!Here are five ideas on how to make a bedroom feel more like a sanctuary..

1) Invest in some cute bedding

Bedding can change up your bedroom like no tomorrow and over the past couple of years, I have had a major obsession with collecting quilt and sheet sets. I love going for beautiful prints and in particular, anything with a touch of nature. Some of my favourite places to find great bedding are Suku Home (their bamboo sheets feel like heaven!), Gorman (their prints are fabulous for linen though they only seem to make pillow cases now), Country Road (for quality neutrals and Scandinavian inspired prints), Kip & Co (for bright colours), Arro Home for cute prints and Rachel Castle's Castle & Things for quirky prints. Don't forget to layer up the look with a throw and cushions. They really make a difference and elevate your bedroom look.

2) Add a rug next to your bed

If you have floorboards in your bedroom like me, you will definitely want to add a rug next to your bed so you have something warm and soft to step onto the moment you wake up. Winter mornings can be cold so the last thing you'd want is to step onto freezing cold floorboards first thing in the morning.

3) Decorate with indoor plants

If you don't already know, I'm obsessed with indoor plants. I just love the feeling of bringing the outdoors in and living in an indoor jungle. When it comes to adding plants to your bedroom, look for ones that in particular, purify the air. Some common bedroom picks include the snake plant, peace lily, ZZ plant (pictured on my right bedside table) and devil's ivy. I go all out with my plants because I have way too many..

4) Invest in some luxurious sleepwear

Make sleepwear fun! Instead of old tees, go for something more luxurious like silk pjs and nighties. Plus, luxurious doesn't have to be expensive. I'm currently loving GRANA's silk sleepwear collection available in rose beige (pictured above), black (classic) and wine. The collection can be mixed and matched too - choose from long sleeves and pants for winter and short sleeves, camis and shorts for summer. I'm a big fan of the feeling of silk, it feels like you are sleeping on a cloud. Even better, you can get free shipping and 10% off your order with my code 'KANIxGRANA' until end of May :)

5) Add warm lighting

I love adding warm lighting to warm up the room. A few lighting options I like having near by are my salt lamp, some fairy lights and of course a reading lamp which I use a fun vintage-look globe for. You can get special energy saving globes which is a bonus but they do cost extra (but it's worth it, for the environment and electricity bill ;-)).Photos: Rowena Cao & IIn collaboration with GRANA
